The specialty field of Real Property Law is the practice of law in Minnesota dealing with matters relating to real property transactions including but not limited to, real estate conveyances, title searches, leases, condominiums, mortgages, and other liens, property taxes, real estate development, real estate financing, and determination of property rights, all with consideration to related fields of law.

Exam scheduled for April 25, 2020 has been postponed until Fall 2020 due to the developing situation surrounding COVID-19.*

*The original application deadline of April 3, 2020 will be rescheduled in light of the exam being postponed.  More information concerning the application deadline will be forthcoming once a new exam date is scheduled.

 Frequently asked Questions about the exam

 

When is the exam? 8:30 am on Saturday, April 25, 2020. The deadline for applying is April 1, 2020. The Standards and an Initial Application can be found at www.mnbar.org/certify. Exam will be offered at the MSBA offices.

 

How long is the exam? 4 hours.

 

What will be on it? Five short answer essay question and fewer than 40 multiple choice questions.

 

Who grades the exams? Each essay will be graded against the model answers by a Certification Board member.

 

Do I need to be a member of the MSBA? No, membership in the MSBA is not required of certified specialists.

 

How many attorneys are MSBA Certified Real Property Law Specialists? Currently there are 314.
