Proposed Changes to the Minnesota Veterans Homes Administrative Rules

1.0 Standard CLE Credit

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs has issued proposed changes to Minnesota Rules Chapter 9050, pertaining to the administration of the Minnesota Veterans Homes.  A hearing is scheduled for January 31, 2022 at 9:30 AM on the proposed changes.  Many of these changes are significant, including altering wait list criteria, eligibility for admission, and the discharge process.  As proposed, the rules will have a great and adverse impact on veterans and their families who may need to receive long-term care services at the Veterans Homes.

Veterans Restorative Justice Act with Annual Legislative Update

2.0 Standard CLE Credits

The first hour will highlight the Veterans Restorative Justice Act (VRJA). Passed in 2021, the VRJA is the result of a collaboration between prosecutors, defense attorneys, social workers, and the state and federal Veterans Affairs agencies that created a specialized sentencing structure for veterans who committed criminal offenses as the result of a service-connected condition. Eligible veterans are given the opportunity to avoid jail time and a criminal conviction if they complete all recommended treatment and abide by other conditions ordered by the court.

The second hour of the program will be a briefing on legislative updates on issues related to, and affecting, servicemembers, veterans, and their families.
