Ian Rubenstrunk and Kaela Brennan join Spencer Fane

Spencer Fane LLP is pleased to announce Ian M. Rubenstrunk joined the Financial Services practice group as an of counsel attorney, and Kathleen (Kaela) Brennan joined the Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice group as an of counsel in the firm’s Minneapolis office.


Rubenstrunk represents a wide array of clients including banks, credit unions, non-traditional lenders, private equity, equipment financers, receivers, landlords, and asset buyers in financial services matters. His extensive experience in financial services is focused on all sides of distressed transactions and turnaround matters, with specific experience in commercial foreclosures, receiverships, bankruptcies, out of court workouts, and litigation involving financial transactions.

Rubenstrunk earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois Chicago John Marshall Law School and his undergraduate degree in English and Political Science from the University of Colorado Boulder.


Brennan addresses the full range of litigation risks, from proactive, preventive counsel to handling all aspects of dispute resolution for clients ranging from individuals to government entities and large corporations. Within her private practice, Brennan’s diverse work consists of all aspects of public sector counsel and complex litigation, and specifically includes handling complex utilities and contractual matters, along with appellate procedures and experience serving as outside general counsel.

Brennan completed her undergraduate studies at the University of St. Thomas and later earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota Law School.
