Katheryn “Katie” Gettman practices Corporate Law at Cozen O’Connor. Recently recognized as a “Notable Woman in Law,” she shares 10 Questions about her practice and her background.

1. As an attorney who practices in the corporate space, what is a typical day at the office look like?

There is a lot of variety, which makes each day very interesting and very different. Today, I started with a call to a long-time client about a supply chain issue with one of his projects, spoke with another client about a strategic partnership to expand its revenue lines, and then spent the remainder of the day at a client’s business operations working with their products, sales, and accounting teams on new initiatives. During those meetings, I negotiated a few contracts for other clients. My day usually ends with a wrap-up call for a client where I serve as their outside general counsel about the priorities for the next day.

2. You were recently recognized as a “Notable Woman in the Law”, what advice do you have for women entering the legal profession in 2022?

You have the power to shape your career. Your path can be different from my path and that is ok. Own your decisions, speak your mind, and take time to celebrate the kind words you hear about your skills and talents.

3. How has getting your MBA, in addition to your JD, assisted you in your practice?

The MBA, along with my prior experience working as a non-lawyer in a number of businesses, has been invaluable to my practice. I approach problems with a business mind-set, which allows me to develop creative solutions to the unique situations my clients face.

4.  What is the most rewarding part of your job?

It’s very hard to pick just one. I have wonderful clients and helping them reach their dreams is personally satisfying. I also love being able to watch and participate in the growth and development of the next generation of lawyers here at Cozen O’Connor and across the legal community.

5.  How has the rapid integration of remote technology due to COVID-19 affected your practice area?

It has changed the way we approach meeting. Before COVID-19, I could count the number of Zoom/Teams meetings I had in a month on one hand. Now, they are a regular part of my practice.

6. When you aren’t working, how do you like to recharge your batteries?

A long bike ride when the seasons are changing.

7. What non-legal book are you reading?

The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino.

8. Complete this sentence: Everyone who knows me knows I love…

Everyone who knows me knows I love ice cream. (Even though I can’t eat it anymore). I’m always looking for ways to recreate the creamiest ice cream, without dairy. Please send me recipes.

9. Who is your dream dinner party guest?

My spouse.

10.  What is an organization/nonprofit who you like to support, give pro bono time to, or volunteer with?

The Multiple Sclerosis Society, an organization which has provided invaluable support to a person very close to me.
