How an Attorney Can Ethically Compete with a $29 Estate Plan Offer from Groupon, LegalZoom, and Similar Entities

Event Description

Deadline to Register: May 7, 2018

On the Solo Small Community, a member recently pointed out a $29 estate plan offer (complete with a will, health care directive, and power of attorney) from an outfit in Florida called Willing.  The question arises how an Attorney can ethically compete with such an offer, and with such entities as Groupon, LegalZoom, and the like.

This CLE will feature a panel discussion on the ethics involved in competing with a $29 estate plan. The panelists will discuss whether it is ethical – in terms of diligence, fees, competence, advertising, and other ethical rules – for an attorney to offer a lower price for an estate plan, how attorneys can ethically market themselves to potential clients to get the potential clients to hire the attorney, what attorneys can ethically do to protect themselves and consumers from the unauthorized practice of law, and whether Willing is engaged in the unauthorized practice of law.

Co-sponsored by the Practice Management & Marketing Section, Solo and Small Firm Section, and Probate & Trust Section
