Governor Walz Appoints Andrew Gordon to Fill Second Judicial District Vacancy 

[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan today announced the appointment of Andrew Gordon as District Court Judge in Minnesota’s Second Judicial District. Mr. Gordon will be replacing the Honorable Lezlie O. Marek and will be chambered in St. Paul in Ramsey County.

“I am honored to appoint Andrew Gordon to the Second Judicial District bench,” said Governor Walz. “Mr. Gordon is an excellent lawyer who will bring a wealth of legal knowledge and experience to the bench. His commitment to justice and engagement with his community makes me confident that he will serve in this role with distinction.”

“Mr. Gordon is a remarkable public servant with a proven commitment to justice,” said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. “His work with the Legal Rights Center, combined with his extensive lived and professional experiences, will undoubtedly be of great benefit to the people of Ramsey County for many years to come.”

Minnesota’s Second Judicial District encompasses Ramsey County.

About Andrew Gordon:

Mr. Gordon is the Deputy Director of Community Legal Services at the Legal Rights Center (LRC), where his responsibilities include the direct representation of indigent clients in criminal and delinquency courts, the supervision of the LRC’s community centered legal work, and advocacy for the empowerment of communities of color, immigrant, and other marginalized communities. Mr. Gordon has litigated complex legal issues and tried cases across a wide spectrum of charges and situations. He has served as a mentor to newer attorneys and students in a variety of different capacities. He currently works on several committees—alongside criminal justice partners and other system stakeholders—on issues of racial justice, equity, and access to justice. Born and raised in Jamaica, Mr. Gordon is a Board Member of Green Card Voices, a local non-profit dedicated to empowering and uplifting the voices of immigrants.

Mr. Gordon earned his B.A. from Macalester College and J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School.
