Governor Walz Appoints Shawn Pearson to Fill Sixth Judicial District Vacancy 

[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan today announced the appointment of Shawn Pearson as District Court Judge in Minnesota’s Sixth Judicial District. Mr. Pearson will be replacing the Honorable Shaun R. Floerke and will be chambered in Duluth in St. Louis County.

“I am proud to appoint Shawn Pearson to the Sixth Judicial District bench,” said Governor Walz. “Mr. Pearson brings a wealth and depth of experience and steadfast leadership to the bench. I have no doubt that his service will greatly benefit the people of Duluth and St. Louis County.”

Minnesota’s Sixth Judicial District encompasses Carlton, Cook, Lake, and St. Louis counties.

About Shawn Pearson

Mr. Pearson is an attorney who represents parents in child protection (CHIPS) matters in Northern Minnesota. He is trained as a mediator and handles a variety of employment discrimination matters in state and federal courts. Previously, he practiced Barnes & Thornburg and Mansfield, Tanick & Cohen, where he litigated a wide variety of civil matters across the state and in the Minnesota Court of Appeals. Mr. Pearson has also worked as in-house counsel for General Mills and Essentia Health. Mr. Pearson’s legal career began as a law clerk in a Chicago-based firm representing workers injured by asbestos. His past community involvement includes serving as a mentor through Twin Cities Diversity in Practice and as a board member of the Minnesota Black Chamber of Commerce and Zenon Dance Company. Mr. Pearson has also taught community engagement seminars at Community Action Duluth and the Family Freedom Center, and he has volunteered as a pro bono attorney for the Children’s Law Center. Mr. Pearson currently sits on the board of the Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial. Mr. Pearson earned his B.A. from the University of Chicago and J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center.
