UPDATE: Governor Walz Extends Deadline to Apply for Upcoming Vacancy on the Minnesota Supreme Court
[ST. PAUL, MN] – Governor Tim Walz today announced that the deadline to apply for the upcoming vacancy on the Minnesota Supreme Court has been extended to Monday, March 30, 2020. If you would like to be considered for both the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals vacancies, please submit a cover letter, resume, and up to ten letters of recommendation with respect to the Supreme Court vacancy, and a separate cover letter for the Court of Appeals vacancy. If you have already applied for the Supreme Court or Court of Appeals, and would like your application to be considered for both vacancies please inform Carl Dennis, Associate Director of Appointments, at judicial.selection@state.mn.us.

Today, Governor Walz announced a vacancy on the Minnesota Supreme Court. This vacancy will occur upon the retirement of the Honorable David L. Lillehaug on July 31, 2020.
“Justice Lillehaug’s service to our state and to the Minnesota Supreme Court has been a true gift, impacting generations to come,” said Governor Walz. “We are grateful for his brilliant legal mind and his deep sense of compassion during his tenure on the bench, and I wish him the best in retirement. I look forward to reviewing the applications of accomplished lawyers and judges from across the state to become our next associate justice.”
The application process is now open for this vacancy, and the Governor encourages applications from lawyers and judges across the state. An individual wishing to apply may request an application by contacting Carl Dennis, Associate Director of Appointments, via e-mail at judicial.selection@state.mn.us. A cover letter and resume should also be submitted with the application. Application materials should be addressed to Governor Tim Walz. Application materials are due by close of business on Friday, March 20, 2020.
