New partnerships, more practice tools

The MSBA offers many practice tools and resources designed to help members practice more efficiently and successfully. This year, the Association released several major updates to some of these services, including the Directories and mndocs. In addition, the MSBA offers members discounts on a number of products and services through its Advantage program, which now includes two new relationships: Clio and Citrix ShareFile.

In January, the MSBA launched two new directories, MN Find a Lawyer and the MSBA Colleague Directory, the former being a public directory members can opt-in to reach more potential clients and the latter being a private members-only directory where members can connect with each other for a number of reasons. Yesterday, the MSBA released updated versions of both directories and made improvements to the Member Profile page. Members and other visitors will notice a cleaner interface with improved search functionality, among other changes. Another major update is scheduled for early fall, which will include some badging and profile photos in search results.

If you haven't added or updated your profile yet, if you do so by July 31 you are automatically entered into a drawing for an iPad and other prizes. The new directory gets over 8,000 searches each month, two thirds of which are by practice area.

In March the MSBA moved its document assembly product, mndocs, to a new cloud-based platform, HotDocs Market. While still offering the same content and functionality as the old system, Market provides more features and much greater accessibility. Through the new relationship with HotDocs, administrative tasks and technical support are handled by HotDocs, which has the expertise and staff to better serve subscribers; this also allows the MSBA to focus on updating and expanding content, an area where the Association is best positioned to add value. This summer, mndocs will be adding several hundred forms in practice areas including family law, adoption, business law, estate planning, and criminal law.

If you haven't checked out the new mndocs yet, there are a number of online resources to help you get up to speed on the new platform, including recorded webinars and FAQs. A representative from HotDocs Market also will be in Minnesota on July 28 to answer any questions you may have, or for any feedback you want to give them on the new platform.

Through the MSBAdvantage program, members can get discounts on several products and services. The MSBA recently added two new partners to the program: Clio and ShareFile. More information on these new benefits will be coming in the next weeks and months, including live and recorded webinars and demonstrations.

Citrix ShareFile is a cloud-based storage service offering fast, easy and secure file sharing on any device anywhere. This customizable solution integrates with tools you already use and provides law firms of all sizes with unlimited storage, instant notification and access to files from any smartphone or tablet with a secure mobile app. Minnesota State Bar Association members receive a 10% discount for life with ShareFile

Clio is a comprehensive cloud-based practice management product specifically designed for solo practitioners and small-to-medium-sized law firms. Clio can be accessed using PCs and Macs as well as mobile devices including iPhone, iPad and other mobile devices. Secure and easy-to-use, Clio provides case/matter management, time tracking, billing/reporting, client contact and document management, task scheduling, trust accounting, and detailed reporting.

To help familiarize members with these new products and services, the MSBA is working on an event tentatively scheduled for early November, which will give members an opportunity to meet with the Association's new partners and try out the new products and services, as well as earn CLE credits. More information on this event will be coming this summer.
