Annual Meeting and Election Results

The Section’s Annual Meeting was held on May 19, 2020 and 23 people attended via webinar.

Council Officers
The following officers were re-elected to serve on the Section’s Governing Council from July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021:

Diversity and Inclusion

  • The Section Council leadership mirrors diversity with women of color in the Co-Chair and Treasurer positions; 
  • With the local tragic event of George Floyd’s death, the Section hosted an Elimination of Bias CLE addressing systemic racism within the practice of Social Security law and opened up the topic for discussion.  

Other Section Accomplishments

  • This term, the Section successfully hosted 12 programs and/or roundtable discussions during a 10-month period from September 2019 through June 2020.  
  • Provided Section members with helpful meetings during the COVID outbreak, while increasing the number of meeting discussions during this unprecedented time.    
  • With the increased programs, the Section offered a total of 10.5 credits, including an Elimination of Bias special credit in this term alone – a real value, especially to Section members, for whom the CLEs were free of charge.
  • Served as a liaison between the SSD bar and OHO regarding concerns raised by practitioners.
  • During the COVID-19 pandemic, served as liaison between DDS, Social Security Administration, and OHO and the Section membership to relay information in the midst of rapidly-changing circumstances.
  • Prioritized engaging law students with council representation at the Meet the Bar law school events, including University of Minnesota Law School, Mitchell Hamline School of Law, and University of St. Thomas Minnesota School of Law.
