Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
What diversity, equity and inclusion goals did the Section include in the 2020-2021 work plan, how did you approach these goals, and what was the result?

  • The Section partnered with the MSBA Administrative Law Section and the Immigration Section for CLEs that helped us reach a wider audience.
  • The Section hosted a CLE with the MSBA New Lawyers Section which was geared towards law students. This CLE had great turnout and helped the Public Law Section expand our reach to current students.
  • The Section hosted a CLE on reasonable accommodations to highlight the changing nature of workplaces after the pandemic subsides.
  • By providing CLEs virtually the Public Law Section was able to reach attorneys practicing in Greater Minnesota. The Public Law Section will continue to prioritize expanded access to events for those who are outside of the metro area.

Other Section Accomplishments

  • Almost doubled our goal of hosting 8 CLE programs per year.
  • Successfully transitioned our Public Law Awards Ceremony to a virtual event that was very well attended and still provided meaningful recognition for our award recipients.
  • Continued donations to the Ronald McDonald House ($300) for each month that we were unable to gather in-person as we normally would.
  • Donated $250 to the Lift Garage as part of a Section donation match initiative in 2020. The Lift Garage was an entity recommended by a Section member.
  • Matched up to $250 of Section donations each to Southern Minnesota Legal Regional Services, Every Meal, and Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid’s Willmar Office in place of our annual meeting charity drive, for a total of $1,452.57.
  • Resumed support for the High School Mock Trial competition with a $500 donation.
