Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
What diversity, equity and inclusion goals did the Section include in the 2021-2022 work plan, how did you approach these goals, and what was the result?

What we had discussed at our planning meeting was that we want to involve law students more in the section, and we identified members of the section council to be in contact with each of the law schools, and in particular the leaders of the student orgs focused on entertainment law. We also wanted to provide opportunities for attorneys and artists to connect more organically, so we planned to have events outside of MSBA premises downtown.

We had discussed potential guest speakers, with efforts to invite presenters from throughout the state who are not normally active with the Section/MSBA, as well as inviting speakers from historically marginalized groups to share their experience in practicing in the entertainment industry.

The biggest impact we have observed: although no longer required, we kept CLE meetings on Zoom. In general, we have had much bigger attendance online than we have at in-person one-hour CLE (especially because historically we host them over the noon hour on Fridays at MSBA). With Zoom we have seen overall attendance nearly triple what we would typically expect at in-person CLE’s, including many more law students and attorneys who do not live in the metro area.

Other Section Accomplishments
