Hybrid Event - Choose Participation Type at Registration
Justice Paul Thissen has specifically reached out to the
MSBA Criminal Law Section in his capacity as liaison to the Legal
Paraprofessional Pilot program. (More info here: https://www.mncourts.gov/Help-Topics/Legal-Paraprofessional-Pilot-Project.aspx).
The Standing Committee overseeing the pilot is making recommendations about the
next steps for the program. License revocation hearings following DUI
stops is one area the Standing Committee is considering for expansion--allowing
approved legal paraprofessionals to provide legal advice and assistance under
general lawyer supervision.
This is a critical opportunity to interact with a Supreme
Court Justice, and to offer your opinion on letting paralegals handle criminal
law matters in court.
Lunch will be
provided at 11:45 for in-person attendees before the CLE portion begins at noon.
