Please join us for a 2020 legislative preview
and energy policy discussion. Senator David Osmek (R-33), Chair of the
Senate Energy and Utilities Finance and Policy Committee and Joe Sullivan,
Deputy Commissioner for the Division of Energy Resources at the MN Department of
Commerce will each separately discuss what their priorities are for the 2020
legislative session. After their presentations, we will bring both speakers up
together to answer questions and have a dialogue with members of the
section. This is a great opportunity for Public Utilities Section members
to engage in direct dialogue with the officials most responsible for setting
Minnesota energy policy.
Presenters:
Senator David Osmek was elected in 2013 and is serving his
second term in the Minnesota Senate. Senator Osmek is the Chairman of the
Minnesota Senate Energy and Utilities Finance and Policy Committee. Senator
Osmek served as the Senate Minority Whip from 2014 to 2016. Prior to his
election to the Minnesota Senate, Senator Osmek served more than eleven years as
a Mound City Council member. Senator Osmek is a graduate of Saint Cloud State
University and is a Project Manager for United Health Group where he is
responsible for data processing and reporting for over 139,000 military
servicemen, their dependents, and retirees.
Joseph Sullivan is the Deputy Commissioner for the Division
of Energy Resources at the Minnesota Department of Commerce. In this role, Joe
leads the Division and supervises the Minnesota State Energy Office and the
Energy Planning and Advocacy unit.
Prior to coming to Commerce, Joe
was the Manager of Legislative and External Affairs for the Center for Energy
and Environment where he worked with policy makers, regulators, utilities,
