Training Provided to Summer Associates

All law clerks will receive mentorship training throughout the summer and will receive regular feedback on their work. The majority of the training will be hands on and experiential.

Pro Bono/Community Involvement

Felhaber’s attorneys and paralegals provide hundreds of hours per year towards pro bono matters and other volunteer activities throughout the Twin Cities community. Associates may apply up to 50 hours of pro bono service to their annual billable requirement.

Felhaber is also committed to serving the Twin Cities community. Attorneys make a difference in their local schools, social service organizations, and youth athletic organizations by volunteering their time as well as serving on boards. Additionally, the Felhaber Larson Foundation is committed to supporting a variety of local charitable organizations. Each year our Foundation seeks to fund not only organizations whose values closely align with ours, but also those that provide the greatest positive impact.

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Felhaber Larson is committed to building a team of talented individuals who value and promote diversity and inclusion. Felhaber aims to create an environment where the perspectives and contributions of people from all backgrounds are valued and integrated into all aspects of the firm. Not only does this make Felhaber a stronger firm, but we serve our clients most effectively when we tackle challenges from diverse perspectives. Our goal is to create and provide an inclusive environment where diverse attorneys and staff will remain, succeed, and advance.

Summer Associate/Clerkship Description

The goal of the law clerk program is to provide a law student with an inside view of the private practice of law. Law clerks will have ample opportunity to attend court hearings, depositions, mediations, client meetings, closings, and firm events. We aim to give our law clerks real work, which is frequently billed to clients, in order to test and develop a law clerk’s skills and provide him or her with a real view of life as a Felhaber attorney.

A day in the life of a law clerk largely mirrors what life as a first-year associate will be. Law clerks are responsible for seeking out work, managing their projects and various deadlines, and completing their work in a professional manner. A member of Felhaber’s Recruiting Committee will be assigned as a “point person” for each summer associate and will assist the law clerk in finding work in his or her desired practice areas, making sure the law clerk has a manageable workload, and address any other questions or issues that may arise during the summer. The focus of the clerkship is entirely flexible depending on a law clerk’s practice area interests. We encourage all law clerks to work with as many attorneys as possible in order to learn as much about our firm and the practice of law.

Successful Candidate Qualities

A successful law clerk will be confident, personable, and hard-working. Strong research and writing skills are a must, as is the ability to work independently and manage a busy case load. We also like to work with people who are active in their communities, have fun hobbies and interests outside of the law, and are good people to be around.

Salary & Benefits

For 2023, Felhaber Larson will pay its law clerk $50/hour. As a full-time, temporary seasonal employees, law clerks are eligible for benefits.
