Summer Associate/Clerkship Description

The DeWitt summer clerkship program runs from on or about June 1 until mid-August. Although there is no set practice group rotation, clerks are encouraged to explore and get exposure to work in a variety of practice areas, work on active client matters, and receive regular feedback on their work product. DeWitt views the summer clerk program as a key to engaging and establishing long-term relationships with diverse attorneys. Successful 1L summer clerks are afforded the opportunity to continue working with the firm on a part-time basis during the school year, return to the firm the following summer, and join the firm as an associate upon graduation from law school. In addition to client work-related activities, we hold a number of social events during the course if the summer to encourage engagement with each other, promote firm culture, and have some fun outside of the office.

Successful Candidate Qualities

A successful summer clerk candidate will be someone who shows and interest in and commitment to their personal growth and development in the legal profession, demonstrates the ability and initiative to perform quality work, is engaging and enjoys the challenges of the profession and the rewards of being part of a mutually supportive team, and demonstrates a commitment to and conduct consistent with our firm values—Dedication to Excellence, Team is Always a Priority, Be a Problem Solver, and Commitment to Positive Character.
