Training Provided to Summer Associates

Summer interns receive a wide range of training from initial trainings on systems and the organization to specialized trainings through the summer Know Your Courts Program. In addition, interns have the ability to work with their Judicial Officer to identify areas of interest for more individualized trainings. 


Pro Bono/Community Involvement

The 4th Judicial District Court not only serves as the Judicial Court for the people of Hennepin County, but also provides legal support and information through our self-help centers for self-represented litigants.

Summer Associate/Clerkship Description

Interested in learning more about the judicial system? Looking for a paid summer position that will allow you to grow and explore various legal issues? Consider joining us as an intern with the Minnesota Fourth Judicial District.

An intern with the Fourth can work within the Minnesota Judicial Branch at the Trial Court level, and gain insight into judicial and court processes, with a court perspective on the administration of justice.

Law Clerks work directly with their assigned Judge and other court staff to perform professional legal research, preparation of memoranda, opinions, and orders and related clerical/administrative work. This position supports the functions of the Chief Judge to uphold the court's mission of providing justice through a system that assures equal access for the fair and timely resolution of cases and controversies.


Successful Candidate Qualities

Some knowledge of general law, state law, established precedent, and sources of legal 

reference.

Some knowledge of court practices and procedures.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally, in writing, and with a diverse 

group of people.

Ability to represent the court in a respectful manner.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Skill in operating a personal computer with word processing and legal research software.


Summer Clerkship Salary and Benefits

$23.60/hour
