Businesses owned and operated by a
family or a small group of owner/operators are a unique breed. The
dynamics of the interpersonal and business relationships among owners and management
are complicated at best and downright maddening at their worst. What does the future
of such a business look like and “what’s next” for its ownership and
employees? In this hour-long session, Josh Bobich, an attorney in Ballard Spahr
LLP’s Owner-Managed Businesses practice, will tackle and explore the multitude
of considerations that face closely held and family-owned
businesses in the lower-middle market when it comes time to plan for
a business and/or life transition, whether it be a transfer
to the next generation, a sale to key employees
or a third party or, *gasp* , riding out a lifestyle
business to the bitter end.
