The MSBA's Health Law Section Presents
Lessons to be Learned from the Largest Health Care Fraud Settlement in U.S. History
In early July 2012, the Justice Department announced that GlaxoSmithKline LLC (GSK), a global pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare company, agreed to plead guilty to and pay $3 billion to settle its criminal and civil suits related to promotion of its best-selling antidepressants for unapproved uses and for failing to report safety data about a top diabetes drug. This unprecedented health care fraud settlement is the largest in U.S. history, and was accompanied by a 126-page five-year Corporate Integrity Agreement.
Join Tom Beimers, former senior counsel in the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the Inspector General, for a discussion on the GSK matter and the lessons to be learned from both compliance and enforcement perspectives.
