Get Involved in Leadership with MSBA Colleagues

Short-term Opportunities

High School Mock Trial
Serve as a judge or coach for a limited period of time or join the ongoing advisory committee.

Blogging and Writing 
Share your knowledge and experiences by contributing to an MSBA blog or magazine. 

Practice Resource Development
Work collaboratively with MSBA staff to review, revise and draft forms, resources, and related webpages for practicelaw and mndocs.

Loaves and Fishes (Public Law Section)
Join members of the Public Law Section in cooking a meal once a month for those in need.


 

Longer-term Opportunities

Sections
Provide service to the profession and gain leadership experience through one of our 37 sections. Opportunities vary by section and include committee service, legislative activities, and educational outreach.

Committee Openings
Innovate, collaborate and enhance the legal profession and MSBA community while meeting needs of the public.

Assembly and Council
Address goals, set policy, lead. Assembly members come from a variety of organizations external to MSBA and from within MSBA. The Council serves as Board of Directors. 

Get Involved in Leadership and  Community

ProJusticeMN
Provide access to justice for those who need legal services, regardless of income. Take on a pro bono case or other opportunity tailored to your availability and interest. Forms and practice materials available. 

Children’s Law Center of Minnesota 
Help provide foster children in Minnesota's child protection system with legal representation and advocacy. CLC provides training and support. 

Immigration Assistance
Connect with organizations and resources to provide assistance to immigrants and asylum seekers. 

Minnesota Legal Advice Online

Make a limited commitment that is entirely online. The MLAO website allows low-income individuals to get brief advice from volunteer attorneys.

Programs Hosted by MN Courts, Law Schools, Etc. 

Wills for Heroes
Assist police officers, firefighters and EMTs in preparing  basic estate planning documents to protect themselves and their families. Training is available.


Recognition and CLE Credit

  • North Star Lawyer MSBA members who provide 50 hours or more of pro bono legal services per year receive recognition as North Star Lawyers. 

  • CLE Credits A Lawyer may claim 1 hour of standard CLE credit for every 6 hours of pro bono legal representation that the lawyer provides.
