Annual Meeting and Election Results
The Section’s Annual Meeting was held on June 7, 2017 and 47 people attended. 

The following council members were elected to serve on the Section’s Governing Council from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018:

Diversity and Inclusion

What diversity and inclusion goals did the Section include in the 2016-2017 work plan, how did you approach these goals, and what was the result? 

  • A Section representative is preparing a mission statement with regard to diversity for approval by the Members. 
  • As noted above, the Section sponsored a CLE regarding Increasing Diversity and Opportunities in the Employee Benefits Practice, hearing from Erin Keyes, Assistant Dean of Students, University of Minnesota Law School; Adam Brown, Assistant Director of Career & Professional Development, University of St. Thomas; Leanne Fuith, Dean of Career and Professional Development, Mitchell Hamline; and Val Jensen, Executive Director of TC Diversity in Practice.  Val Jensen began the discussion focusing on outreach to diverse groups, and the panel then discussed opportunities for connecting with law students to encourage diversity and opportunities in the employee benefits practice.

Other Section Accomplishments

The Section Chair participated in the MSBA Section Leadership Workshop on July 28, 2016. 

The Section Chair approved the opportunity for members to participate in an Elimination of Bias CLE sponsored by the Health Law Section on September 16, 2016, and the New Lawyers Leadership Conference in on November 3, 2016.

The Section hosted the Advanced Employee Benefits Workshop on February 9, 2017, in conjunction with Minnesota CLE.

The Section hosted a reception for law students at University of St. Thomas on April 20, 2017. 

The Section Legislative Liaison participated in MSBA Assembly Meetings on December 9, 2016, April 21, 2017 and June 16, 2017.
