Program
Description:
In the recent decision of Popovich v. Allina
Health, the Minnesota Supreme Court held that hospitals may ultimately be
liable for the actions of providers who are not employed by the hospital but
instead provide care under an independent-contractor arrangement. This
expansion of liability in professional negligence cases has a number of
implications for our health systems, hospitals, and independent provider
groups. This presentation will outline the legal liability landscape
before and after Popovich
and discuss the potential effects of this decision in
the health care industry.
