The 2016 State of Small Law
Firms survey was recently released by Thomson Reuters and indicated that the
majority of small law firms value client satisfaction, firm profitability, and
individual matter profit. Do you measure and track those items? Do you have the
right data? Do you know how to make changes to your firm? While technology is a
great addition to the law or any professional service offering, without proper
metrics and measurement, firms face lower profits or even failure. Key
Performance Indicators (KPIs) are critical to measure client satisfaction, firm
culture, return on investment - more than billable hours and profits per
partner. However, knowing how to get started; where to focus; and how to
follow-up can be overwhelming. We will review a KPI framework; discuss the seven
areas of measurement; and examine the technology to support KPI
implementation.
