Fit to Practice: What to Do When Your Client is Sued

Event Description

Deadline to Register: January 12, 2016

What should a new lawyer do when a client walks into their office with a summons and complaint in one hand and a ticking clock in the other?  When the clock is ticking, it’s best to turn to tried-and-tested methods. The panelists will discuss the effective use of checklists in managing the initial phase of the litigation process. Among the topics discussed, two experienced litigators and a district court judge will address how to address conflicts and obtain waivers, how to analyze venue and jurisdiction, and discuss applicable procedural rules.  Beyond the initial procedural steps, they will also address how to develop a case strategy and plan of action that is consistent with your client's objectives, how to investigate key facts, and determine appropriate litigation holds.

The New Lawyers section membership will meet following the CLE at 5:30 pm.
