Commission on Judicial Selection recommends 1st Judicial District candidates to Gov. Walz

[ST. PAUL, MN] – The Commission on Judicial Selection announced today it is recommending three candidates for consideration to fill a vacancy in Minnesota’s First Judicial District. The vacancy occurred upon the retirement of the Honorable Rex D. Stacey. The seat will be chambered in Shakopee in Scott County.

Jennifer Coates: Ms. Coates is a Partner at Bowman and Brooke LLP, specializing in complex civil litigation.  She has significant trial and litigation experience in Minnesota and around the country.  Ms. Coates began her legal career at Gray Plant Mooty, now known as Lathrop GPM. Previously, she served as a Minnesota Assistant Attorney General, representing state and county agencies in civil and administrative matters. Ms. Coates’ community involvement includes serving on the board of YMCA-Camp Northern Lights. She is committed to sharing her love of the outdoors with young people. A St. Paul native, Ms. Coates is a graduate of Saint Paul Academy and Summit School.

Bryce Ehrman: Mr. Ehrman currently serves as an Assistant Scott County Attorney, where he represents Human Services in child protection proceedings. He is also a team member of the Scott County Treatment Court and Scott County Veterans Treatment Court. Previously, he served as a Guardian ad Litem Coordinator in the First Judicial District, as an Assistant Sibley County Attorney, and as an associate at Schauer Law Office. Mr. Ehrman’s legal experience includes prosecution of criminal offenses, juvenile delinquency, child protection, and civil private practice. His community involvement includes serving as a member of the Chaska Lions Club Board of Directors, as an investigator on the District Ethics Committee, and as a MSBA Mock Trial judge volunteer. Mr. Ehrman also serves as a mentor for students at Shakopee High School and Mitchell Hamline School of Law.

Charles Webber: Mr. Webber is a partner at Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP. He is a trial and appellate specialist and has represented clients in a wide range of litigation in state and federal courts and in arbitrations. Mr. Webber is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International Society of Barristers, and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, and he is a member of American Board of Trial Advocates. His community involvement includes serving as a member and immediate past chair of the board of St. Stephen’s Human Services in Minneapolis, a worship-team leader and lay reader at St. James Lutheran Church in Burnsville, and the leader of his firm’s Pro Bono Conciliation Court Clinic. Mr. Webber is a past and current member of numerous bar associations.
