Governor Walz Reappoints the Honorable Bradford Delapena to the Minnesota Tax Court

[ST. PAUL, MN] – Today, Governor Tim Walz announced the reappointment of the Honorable Bradford Delapena as Judge of the Minnesota Tax Court for a six-year term set to expire on January 4, 2027.

“Chief Judge Delapena has immeasurable knowledge and passion for tax law,” said Governor Walz. “His experience and commitment to maintaining integrity within the Tax Court makes him an excellent Judge. I look forward to seeing him continue to work hard on behalf of the people of Minnesota.”

“Chief Judge Delapena exhibits the best qualities of a judge,” said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. “He is intelligent, thoughtful, and fair. I have no doubt he will continue to serve with distinction on the Tax Court.”

About the Honorable Bradford Delapena

The Honorable Bradford Delapena currently serves as Chief Judge of the Minnesota Tax Court. He was appointed by Governor Dayton to the Tax Court in November 2012 and was reappointed in 2015. After being selected by his colleagues on the Tax Court, he served as Chief Judge from December 2012 to January 2015, and again from June 2017 to the present. Previously, he served as an Assistant State Public Defender specializing in appeals to the Minnesota Supreme Court and as an Assistant Minnesota Attorney General in the Tax Litigation Division. He has also worked in private practice for Bradford Delapena, Ltd., having represented the Board of State Public Defense in several important funding cases as a solo practitioner. He has also served on the Minnesota Supreme Court Criminal Rules Advisory Committee, as well as the Minnesota Supreme Court Appellate Rules Advisory Committee. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota Law School.

The Minnesota Tax Court is an executive branch court established by the Minnesota Legislature to hear and consider tax-related cases.
