Commission on Judicial Selection Recommends Seventh Judicial District Candidates to Governor Walz 

[ST. PAUL, MN] – The Commission on Judicial Selection announced today it is recommending three candidates for consideration to fill the current vacancy in Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District. The vacancy occurred upon the creation of a new District Court judgeship effective July 1, 2019 and will be chambered at Moorhead in Clay County.

Mara Rausch: Ms. Rausch is currently a managing attorney in the Office of Public Defender in Moorhead. In her role, she supervises attorneys and staff in Becker and Clay Counties, represents client in felony, gross misdemeanor, and misdemeanor litigation through trial. Previously, Ms. Rausch was in her own solo practice representing public defender clients, and private clients in felony, gross misdemeanor, and misdemeanor litigation through trial, parents and children in child protection proceedings through trial and appeal when appropriate. Her community involvement includes former president for the Clay County Bar Association, participant in the organizing committee for Becker County DWI Court, former member of the Domestic Violence Court committee, and others.

Jade Rosenfeldt: Ms. Rosenfeldt is currently a shareholder at Vogel Law Firm where she manages a high volume of complex criminal and family law cases in Minnesota, North Dakota state and federal courts. In her role, she also represents clients in real estate and planning and zoning matters, business litigation, expungement, implied consent, orders for protection, serves as a Criminal Justice Act Panel Attorney, advocates for clients in jury trials and bench trials in both state and federal court, among other duties. Her community involvement includes current president of Clay County Bar Association, member of the State Bar Association of Minnesota, Greater Minnesota Section Council Chair, Youth Court and Restorative Justice board member, and others.

Nathaniel Welte: Mr. Welte currently serves as an assistant county attorney for the Becker County Attorney’s Office. In this role he primarily handles felony person offenses, juvenile delinquencies, and civil litigation. Mr. Welte was previously in private practice and handled a wide variety of matters including family law, child protection, probate, real estate, and criminal defense. Mr. Welte served as a part-time assistant public defender for the State of Minnesota. His community involvement includes serving as assistant scoutmaster for Perham Boy Scout Troop 321 and serving as a former board member of the New York Mills Cultural Center, former President of the New York Mills Lions, and member in the Perham Rotary Club. 

Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District consists of Becker, Benton, Clay, Douglas, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Otter Tail, Stearns, Todd, and Wadena Counties.
