To everything there is a season

There is a time and place for everything, and perhaps right after the reporting deadline is not that time for most folks regarding upcoming CLE programming. However, with the new Bar year underway, the Association’s thirty-seven sections are preparing hundreds of programs for the coming year, the vast majority of which are accessible to attorneys throughout the state via a live webcast option.

Last year, the MSBA’s sections offered two hundred and sixty CLE programs on a number of topics. Many of these programs were offered free to law students, new lawyers, and section members, and where there was a cost it was nominal. (An earlier post discussed several other free CLE options available in Minnesota as well.) Next month the average cost of MSBA CLE programming is just over $9 for section members, and the average cost per credit ranges from $7.55 for section members to $14 for MSBA members to just over $21 for nonmembers. In addition to its low cost, almost all section CLEs are available remotely. Whether you are located in Greater Minnesota or just can’t break away for a lunch at the MSBA offices, remote participation is available over the internet via Adobe Connect or by teleconference. Some sections now offer certain CLE programs simultaneously at satellite locations throughout the state.

In addition to over two hundred live programs each year, available to anyone anywhere, the MSBA now offers dozens of On-Demand CLEs with a member price of $24.95. Not only are the On-Demand programs available anywhere, but they are available any time as well. In Minnesota lawyers can earn up to fifteen credits in a reporting period through on-demand programs like the MSBA’s Developing Law Series.

The MSBA also offers special programs throughout the year, like the upcoming technology conference this November. With an early bird member price of $50, the November conference offers a full day of CLE credit on a number of topics relating to technology and the practice of law.

Got a topic or idea for a CLE program? Contact one of the sections, or better yet get involved with the section. Over half of all MSBA members have joined at least one section, and, as MSBA President Mike Unger noted in this week’s Legal News Digest, participation in a section or sections is a great way to maximize the value of your MSBA membership.
