Did you know there is more to practicelaw than just forms?  practicelaw is designed to be a repository of resources intended to help your practice.  Similarly, the MSBA’s practiceblawg is a blog for the Association to share with you how the MSBA can help you improve your efficiency and grow your practice.  The MSBA offers members a number of products and services and is always looking for ways to better serve its members and provide greater value.

Get Involved

by Joe Kaczrowski | May 06, 2015

If you’re looking for ways to get more out of your MSBA membership or for opportunities to give back to the profession and society, the MSBA’s new Volunteer & Get Involved page is a great place to start.  Updated frequently, the Get Involved page identifies different opportunities available to members who want to volunteer their time and expertise.

Opportunities include short-term seasonal programs like the MSBA’s Mock Trial program. Other limited scope options include the Wills for Heroes program, writing for the MSBA blogs or Bench & Bar, and helping the MSBA develop practice resources to help all members, such as practicelaw and mndocs. Longer term opportunities include leadership and policy positions with MSBA sections, committees, the council and the assembly.

In addition to these professional development opportunities with the MSBA, the Get Involved page identifies several pro bono options available to members, including ProJusticeMN, Minnesota Legal Advice Online, and the Children’s Law Center of Minnesota.

If you are interested in any of the listed openings, have any feedback on the page, or if you have any other opportunities you think should be included, send an email to Sherri Knuth.

If you're looking for career opportunities, the MSBA has you covered there too. Check out past practiceblawg posts covering topics like alternative or additional revenue options for attorneys.

The MSBA also offers hundreds of CLE programs, both live and On-Demand. Whether you're nearing your reporting deadline or just looking for interesting topics and developments in the law, the MSBA's CLEs offer low cost programming from dozens of practice areas.

The MSBA's CLE programs are more convenient than ever, both the new On-Demand program, which can be used for up to 15 credits per recording period, but also the section CLEs, almost all of which are simultaneously offered remotely via webcast.

Of course the best way to get involved is to connect with your colleagues. The MSBA's greatest asset is its 15,000+ members. Whether you take advantage of the new MSBA Colleague Directory, join a section (or two), participate on a listserv, or take advantage of other opportunities, through its members the MSBA offers a knowledge base with hundreds of thousands of years of legal experience and a wide array of interests and experiences.
