Corporate Law Dept Inclusion and Diversity Initiatives – Attracting and Retaining In-House Lawyers and Outside Counsel

Event Description

Deadline to Register: June 1, 2018

Corporations are focusing on inclusion and diversity and their legal departments are as well. This session will focus on corporate law department initiatives to attract and retain diverse in-house lawyers and diverse outside counsel. Panelists will speak about the efforts corporate legal departments are taking to examine employment barriers (including hiring, retention, and promotion) for lawyers of color and women lawyers. Panelists will also discuss the diversity initiatives they are taking with respect to retention of outside legal counsel (including the processes and data used to establish those initiatives).  We will hear about the results they are seeing, and how they are measuring those results. We will also hear how outside law firms are addressing these stronger demands for diversity from corporations and discuss what steps lawyers can take to participate in these initiatives. Panelists and participants will also have a chance to discuss the unique challenges of a specialty practice, such as the employee benefits practice, in attracting diverse lawyers.

The Section will also hold their annual meeting and elect new officers for 2018-19 during the first 10-15 minutes of the meeting.

Lunch and registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. The program will begin at approximately 11:45 a.m. with the Section Annual Meeting.  The CLE will begin at Noon.
