Please join the MSBA Immigration Law Section for this 2-hour program that will cover family and immigration issues including Special Immigrant Juveniles Status (SIJS) petitions divorces (custody issues if a parent is undocumented), powers of attorney and custody documents to have prepared if ICE comes knocking at the door, US passport issues for US citizen children (single parent households and households with undocumented parents), and more!

Presenters:

Rebecca Scholtz | Staff Attorney, CLINIC’s Vulnerable Populations Project 
Rebecca Scholtz is a Training and Legal Support Staff Attorney with the new Defending Vulnerable Populations Project. Prior to joining CLINIC, Rebecca worked with Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid's Immigration Law Project, first as a Liman Fellow and then as a staff attorney. Her work at MMLA focused on representation of unaccompanied children, and she also provided training, technical assistance, pro bono program development, and advocacy on children's immigration issues.

Cathleen A. Sykes | Attorney, Sykes Family Law, P.A.
Cathleen A. Sykes is the Owner and Founding Attorney of Sykes Family Law, P.A. A graduate of William Mitchell College of Law, Cathleen spent her time at law school volunteering with low-income families at Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services, and at the Hennepin County Juvenile and Family Justice Center’s Family Law Clinic and Child Support Workshop. She focused her legal studies on women’s rights and gender equality, helping implement a Law Students for Reproductive Justice student association on campus and instilling William Mitchell as an annual participant in the Williams Institute Sexual Orientation Law Moot Court.

Iris Ramos | Attorney, Law Office of Iris Ramos, LLC
Iris Ramos is the Owner and Founding Attorney of The Law Office of Iris Ramos LLC. Shortly after graduating from the University of Minnesota Law School, Iris started her law firm with a vision of helping individuals, including those in the Latino community, achieve their legal needs by providing caring, informed and supportive services in the areas of family and immigration law. Iris volunteers her time providing free legal clinics at the Consulate of Ecuador in the areas of family and immigration law and the Chrysalis Center for family law as well as monthly Spanish phone legal clinics for the Volunteer Lawyers Network and volunteer services for the Immigrant Law Center. Iris firmly believes in giving back to her community and also enjoys investing her time as a board member and vice-chair of Centro Tyrone Guzman and board member of Latino Economic Development Center. She is currently a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, Minnesota State Bar Association, Hennepin County Bar Association and is a Limited Scope Attorney for the Hennepin County Family Justice Center.

Patricia Perez Jenkins | Attorney, Perez-Jenkins Law, LLC
Patricia Perez-Jenkins worked at Southern MN Regional Legal Services in the Refugees, Immigrant and Migrant unit from 2005 till 2009 working in the areas of employment, civil and immigration law. She left legal aid to start her own practice in 2010. Currently her solo practice concentrates on immigration and family law cases specializing in victims of crime, domestic abuse, family immigration and waivers. She contracts with Civil Society to continue to provide services to victims who cannot afford a private practice attorney. Since 2011 she also teaches, as an Adjunct Associate Professor, a course entitled Law in Practice at the University of Minnesota Law School.  She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School, 2005. She has a A.B. from Harvard & Radcliffe College (1998) in Government/Political Science.
