The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA)
appropriated approximately $65 billion nationally to improve access to broadband
and technology. One program, called the Broadband Equity, Access, and
Deployment (BEAD), will focus on expanding and strengthening broadband
infrastructure. A second program, the Digital Equity Act, will fund new digital
equity initiatives.
The new Executive Director of the Minnesota Office of
Broadband Development (OBD) will introduce herself and her team who will be
responsible for creating the state’s BEAD plan and Digital Equity plan, working
in partnership with the National Telecommunications and Information
Administration (NTIA), to distribute Minnesota’s share of this federal funding
equitably and efficiently throughout the state. You’ll learn and have an
opportunity to ask questions about the rules of the BEAD and Digital
Equity Act programs, the timelines, and the process NTIA and OBD will follow in
implementing this substantial investment into Minnesota’s broadband
infrastructure.
