Commemorating the Centennial of the 19th Amendment: 100 Years of
Voting Rights and Civic Engagement
Presenter: Michelle Witte,
Executive Director of the Minnesota League of Women Voters
Did you know
that Minnesota can claim the first woman to vote in the nation, after the
passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920? And that we also hold the current record
for the highest voter turnout in the nation? Come learn more about Woman
Suffrage in Minnesota, and how our voting rights continue to expand - and be
challenged - today. Michelle Witte, Executive Director of the League of Women
Voters Minnesota, will share with us some of the unique history related to the
"Votes for Women" movement here in our State, how that movement affected women
of color, and how the League of Women Voters continues to live out the mission
of empowering voters and defending democracy as a nonpartisan, civic engagement
organization, with 35 community-based chapters here in MN.

Mindfulness at
Work Presenter: Susan
Miles
Susan Miles has been practicing meditation for thirteen years. She

positions as Assistant Chief Judge of the Tenth Judicial District, and as past
president of Minnesota District Judges Association, Minnesota District Judges
Foundation, and Minnesota Women Lawyers. She is qualified by the University of
Massachusetts Medical School Center for Mindfulness to teach Mindfulness Based
Stress Reduction.
A growing body of research evidence has begun to
point to the numerous benefits of mindfulness practice. Studies indicate that
mindfulness enhances emotional and physical resilience, improves cognitive
functioning, and connects us more positively to other people. This session will
include an introduction to mindfulness, and will explore the ways in which key
mindfulness traits relate to essential workplace skills such as resilience, task
execution, critical analysis, intra/interpersonal growth and leadership.
