Live Webcast
Presentation:
Debtor Creditor and bankruptcy
attorneys encounter clients and parties who are dealing with the stress of their
financial difficulties and may present a mental health issue as well.
Learn how these issues may present themselves, how they affect interactions and
representation, and what some options may be. Topics will
include:
1. Introduction to mental
illness – This will include Depression, Bipolar & Anxiety for sure, as well
as addiction, especially compulsive gambling. If there are other issues
lawyers in this field face we can address those as
well.
2. What the lawyer may observe that
suggests a client or party is dealing with a mental health issue (including the
impact of stress). What options are present in representation (including
can mental illness be argued as a mitigating factor or are debts more likely to
be collected/paid if the person gets help)
3. Client service – the human
factor. What do you say if you believe any of these issues may be
present? I think we’d want to include something about warning signs of
suicide.
4. What this does to the lawyer and
how we can care for ourselves.
