A new year brings with it a
great opportunity to address ethical concerns, and to learn about potential
ethics issues that you may not be aware of, but that could present concern. This
CLE will cover several ethics topics that are often overlooked, but that can
result in lawyers facing discipline.
We will talk about ethical
issues many lawyers might not be aware of that could present issues in your
daily practice, such as Rules of Professional Conduct: Rule 1.5(e) (Division of
Fees); Rule 1.16 (Declining or Terminating Representation); and Rules 5.1 and
5.3 (Supervision). We will learn about ways in which well-meaning lawyers still
end up with ethical difficulties and how a lawyer can better manage their
practice to avoid the concerns. We will discuss ways lawyers can protect
themselves in the new year including the importance of office procedures and
conflicts checking systems.
