Webinar Description:
Traumatic experiences in childhood have
historically been overlooked as predisposing factors in the development of
various chronic pain disorders and psychiatric conditions including
Fibromyalgia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, insomnia, depression, anxiety,
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and chronic fatigue. This presentation is
intended to explain the ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences Study) and various
supporting theories. It is a summary of the understanding of the
connection between complex trauma and both mental and physical
disabilities as an adult. It is intended to be an explanation of (1) the
types of stress; (2) the systems involved; and (3) our response to traumatic
stress.
