The Greatest Minnesota Practice Series
- Part 3 Exiting Greater Minnesota
Practice
It
was common not that many years ago for members of a small law firm to almost
seamlessly sell their practices to associates of the firm or sole practitioners
to sell their practices to an established lawyer/firm or to a new lawyer seeking
to start a practice with an existing “book of business.” Not anymore. There seem
to be no accepted formulas for solo-small lawyers to exit their practices,
especially in rural areas gracefully.
This presentation is a
dialogue between Pat Costello, an experienced lawyer from Lakefield, Minnesota,
with a well-established estate administration practice, and Dennis O’Toole, an
equally seasoned lawyer from Grand Rapids, Minnesota, with substantial
experience in small business acquisitions and sales.
Pat and
Dennis are long-term members of the MSBA Greater Minnesota Practice Council,
which has made solving the difficulties in exiting Greater Minnesota law
practices a high priority.
Expect a spirited
discussion of the frustrations Dennis and Pat have seen among their colleagues
on this subject, outlining accepted models and innovative suggestions to help to
find solutions to this challenging problem. They will ask participants to
forward questions and ideas to help find solutions to a growing
problem.
