Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are a technology for gathering, managing, analyzing, integrating, mapping and displaying spatial data. GIS technology affords the ability to layer data from a variety of sources into a cohesive whole to enhance understanding of patterns and relationships of real-world phenomena on the landscape. This presentation will provide background and context on GIS technology, its benefits, uses and limitations when applied to the legal realm and will outline several cases where this technology has been deployed.
