Event Description
The National Defense
Authorization Act of 2020 includes provisions requiring many businesses,
especially smaller businesses, to report the identities of their beneficial
owners to FinCEN, an arm of the Unites States Department of the Treasury. These
provisions also potentially implicate people who assist in forming and
maintaining businesses, which includes attorneys. The stated purpose of the
program is to prevent money laundering and to frustrate terrorists. This program
will introduce you to the requirements of this new program and explore whether
this means the end of the “private” company, at least with respect to the
Federal Government.
