Lobbying 101: Getting Started

Between a global pandemic, social unrest, and a recession, many of us have asked, "What Can I Do?" How can we address these current issues in a manner that creates systemic, lasting change? Taking legislative action is often the best way to create lasting change. However, many individuals and organizations do not regularly engage in the lobbying efforts necessary to develop support for legislation. If you do not understand the importance of lobbying or do not know how to get started, this program is for you. It will teach you the fundamentals, including building a strategy, communicating, and how to persuade legislators. We hope you will join us to learn how lobbying can become an effective tool in your arsenal.

Kevion Ellis, Goff Public
Kevion Ellis is an account executive with Goff Public’s government relations practice. He is an integral part of the firm’s work at the Legislature on behalf of clients, tracking bills, monitoring committee hearings, and securing political intelligence. From day-to-day coordination of allies and stakeholders to large-scale demonstrations and political events, Kevion is skilled at bringing coalition partners together and keeping them on track. Kevion joined Goff Public from Greeley, Colorado, where he served as a university student body president; campaign manager for a city council race; and legislative intern for Colorado State Representative Dave Young, specializing in state budget issues.

Cam Winton, Dorsey & Whitney LLP
Cam Winton is a lawyer and lobbyist with the Dorsey & Whitney law firm. He helps clients achieve their legal and public policy goals before the Minnesota Legislature, executive branch departments, and administrative agencies. He has worked closely with elected officials and staffers to achieve clients’ desired outcomes on a wide range of matters.
