Program Description:
In this one-hour session
presenter Rowzat Shipchandler will talk about the history of racism and its
persistence in the United States, present data about bias pertaining to the
legal system, and talk about ways to contribute to ending racism within the
legal system. There will be time for questions and answers.

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources
Rowzat Shipchandler has been trying to change the world since she was a
teenager. She has spent more than 20 years in the nonprofit and public
sectors. Between 2015 and 2019, Rowzat served as Deputy Commissioner at
the Minnesota Department of Human Rights, managing the internal operations of
the agency and staffing the planning the process for the statewide Civic
Engagement plan. Prior to that, she served for a decade as the manager for the
Facing Race Racial Equity Initiative at The Saint Paul Foundation, which sought
to involve Minnesotans in conversations about racism. She has also worked
as a community initiatives manager at Greater Twin Cities United Way and a
community based crime prevention organizer at the Summit University Planning
Council. She currently serves as Diversity Coordinator at the Minnesota
Department of Natural Resources.
