WEBINAR | The Tragedy Behind ‘Tiger King’

Event Description

This online program includes the annual Animal Law Section elections for 2020-2021; Elections will begin at 11:50 AM with the CLE presentation to follow immediately by 12 Noon to 1:15 PM.

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, all bar association programming is currently REMOTE-ONLY participation. There will be NO in-person attendance.  Thank you.

Program:

The ‘Tiger King’ Netflix series features several roadside zoos that house big cats and other wild animals in substandard conditions. While the series sensationalized the personalities of the zoos’ owners (one of whom is in prison for killing five tigers and committing other crimes), this webinar will spotlight what ‘Tiger King’ didn’t reveal- the tragedy facing captive big cats in the United States. National and local experts will provide a glimpse behind the scenes- into cub petting, private ownership, federal and state laws, pending legislation, and stories of real-life rescues. There will be time for Q&A.

Presenters:

Debbie Leahy, Senior Strategist, Captive Wildlife | Humane Society of the United States
Tammy Thies, Founder and Executive Director | The Wildcat Sanctuary
Lisa Wathne, Senior Strategist, Captive Wildlife  | Humane Society of the United States
