Registration and
breakfast will begin at 8:00 am. The program will begin at 8:30 am.
Please join us for the Ninth Annual State of the Child
Summit. This year’s Summit will explore the effects of the opioid epidemic
and children in the court system. We will explore the impact of this drug crisis
in children in the legal system who may be addicted, have family members
who are addicted or are working with court officers who
may be addicted. We will also discuss the impact of
the opioid crisis on the Native American community. A moderated panel discussion
will follow the presentations.

Jones, Tribal Court Judge and Director, Tribal Judicial Institute
at the University of North Dakota School of Law, Grand Forks, North Dakota
Dr.
Lucien Gonzalez is a pediatrician and addiction medicine
specialist, and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and
Behavioral Sciences at the University of Minnesota. He is the current Chair of
the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Substance Use and Prevention,
whose goal is to produce guidance to reduce harms from substance use. His
clinical focus is in pediatric behavioral health with specific expertise in
substance-related disorders, including a program for treating opioid use
disorder in emerging adults.

Roxann Anoka will speak on her family's
experiences on the opioid epidemic and share her insights on how to deal with
this problem. Three of her daughters are dealing with opioid addiction and she
is caring for her grandchildren because their mothers are not able to do so
