Film and Television Production In Minnesota - State of the Industry and Tax Incentives

Lunch will be provided. Registration and lunch will begin at 11:30 am.  The CLE program will begin at 12:00 pm.

This panel will take a look at the present and future issues surrounding film and television production in Minnesota.  Topics covered will include the current status of snowbate and legislative goals in connection with tax incentives.  There will also be a discussion regarding the upcoming Independent Television Festival in Duluth this October.

Presenters:

Melodia Bahan, Executive Director – Minnesota Film & Television
Melodie Bahan was appointed Executive Director of MN Film & TV in June 2017 and is currently on the board of the Film Society of Minneapolis/St. Paul.  She previously served as the first Vice President of Communications for Artspace, the nation’s leading developer of affordable space for artists and, prior to that, as the Director of Communications for the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, overseeing all media relations, publications and online content.
 
Philip Gilpin, Jr., Executive Director – Independent Television Festival
Philip assumed the role of Executive Director of the Independent Television Festival in 2013 after working in the business affairs division of HBO.  He is currently a member of the Board of Governors for the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.  ITVFest, taking place this year in Duluth from October 9th through October 13th, provides creators of independent episodic content a platform and marketplace for their work to be viewed by studios, producers and executives in the traditional entertainment industry.
 
Daniel Satorius, Owner & Attorney – Satorius Law Firm, PC
Satorius Law Firm, represents indie producers in matters of distribution, transactions, rights clearance, IP, and financing.  Daniel has over 30 years of experience and his clients include Academy Award, Emmy Award, Independent Spirit, SXSW, and Sundance award winners.  He has spoken and written frequently about legal topics of concern to independent film producers.  He was an adjunct professor of law at William Mitchell Law School.

Daniel Dillon, Owner & Attorney – Dillon Law LLC
Daniel Dillon is a solo practitioner based in Minneapolis specializing in entertainment and media law, intellectual property, and business matters.  He has over ten years as a professional in the media industry, serving as counsel for Viacom, Mark Burnett, Oprah Winfrey and Legendary Entertainment and is a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
