Event Description
Deadline to Register: March 10, 2019
This program is co-sponsored
by the
Tech Law Section and the Environmental, Natural Resources and Energy Law (ENRE)
Section.
The Tech Law Section Council will
meet at 11:30 am, followed by lunch and the CLE at noon.
Most of autonomous vehicles’ promised benefits (e.g., environmental gains, improved safety, affordability, improved
mobility, reduced congestion, improved transit) depend on
developments in federal, state, and local laws, policy, governance, and planning. And AVs’ ability
to deliver these and other benefits can be significantly augmented by advances
in other areas of transportation innovation (e.g., electric vehicles, car-sharing platforms, micro-mobility) that
also implicate federal, state, and local laws and
policies. This presentation will discuss how AVs, electric vehicles (EVs), car sharing,
and other transportation advances can converge to support
greener, safer, more connected,
and more equitable land use patterns, street designs, mobility options,
and other opportunities. It will also discuss how federal, state, and local laws
and regulations (e.g., traffic codes, zoning, safety standards) can be structured
to support those outcomes and configurations.
