The MSBA Criminal Law Section is presenting this CLE
for the 6th District Bar Association of Minnesota at their regular monthly
meeting time in Mankato at the Mankato
Golf Club.
Padilla v Kentucky (2010)
defined
the circumstances when criminal defense counsel must provide immigration advice
to a client who pleads guilty to a crime. This CLE provides a basic
understanding of immigration consequences on noncitizen defendants. The
presentation will explain the legal duties of defense counsel, prosecutors, and
courts when a noncitizen is charged with a crime by reviewing federal decisions,
Minnesota decisions, procedural rules, and real stories from the
presenter.
