Servicemembers and Veterans face challenges
in the legal system. Join us for this half-day seminar to learn about
Minnesota’s veteran population, legislative initiatives related to veterans, and
issues specific to veterans involved with the criminal justice
system.
The Military & Veterans Affairs Section
Annual Meeting & Elections will be held in the beginning after 1:30 pm. All
section members are invited to attend. There will be cocktails and complimentary hors
d'oeuvres.

An overview of the demographics of Minnesota’s veteran population. Minnesota
has a high percentage of citizens who serve or have served our country, but they
are not always visible to the civilian community.
2:00 pm to 3:00 pm – Annual Case Law and Legislative Update

latest legislation, issues and trends in the past year affecting servicemembers
and their families.

Public Defender | Ramsey County Public Defender’s Office
Veterans are over-represented in the criminal justice system. One response
has been the development of Veterans Treatment Courts. Judge Tilsen and Mr. Tsai
were involved in the development and implementation of the Ramsey County
Veterans Treatment Court and will discuss their experiences and reflections on
how the Court responds to the unique needs of veterans in the criminal justice
system.
