Lunch will be provided. On-site registration will begin at 11:30 AM. The program will begin
at 12 Noon.
This CLE will look at the state of racial and socioeconomic
segregation in Twin Cities public schools, the history, roots, and causes of
that segregation, and possible legal avenues and approaches to dealing with
it. Topics to be covered include the
role of charter schools and the State of Minnesota in causing and contributing
to school segregation, and in potentially being part of the
solution.
Speaker:
Daniel R. Shulman is a principal in the law firm of
Gray Plant Mooty. He has had an active pro bono civil rights practice
since 1970. From the early 1970s until 2000, he was general counsel for
the Minneapolis Branch of the NAACP. In his civil rights practice, he has
litigated educational adequacy/school
desegregation cases for over 20 years.
He has been chief counsel in antitrust litigation involving major industries
in a variety of cases since 1970 ranging from data storage, media, food, oil and
gasoline, airlines, consumer electronics, medical electronics, health care,
thoroughbred horses, and many other areas. Mr. Shulman has also been
counsel in trademark and patent infringement actions.
He continues to write and lecture extensively. Mr. Shulman was the
chair of the Sedona Conference Antitrust law program every year since its
inception in 1998 through 2014.
He is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International
Academy of Trial Lawyers, the Litigation Counsel of America, Trial Lawyer
Honorary Society, and is a member of the American Bar Association.
