Public Utilities Section 2018 Legislative Session Preview

Event Description

Deadline to Register:  Monday, November 13, 2017

Please join us for a 2018 legislative preview and energy policy discussion with Representative Pat Garofalo (R-58B) Chair of the Job Growth and Energy Affordability Policy and Finance Committee and Senator David Osmek (R-33), Chair of the Senate Energy and Utilities Finance and Policy Committee. Rep. Garofalo and Senator Osmek will each separately discuss what their priorities are for the 2018 legislative session. After their presentation, we will bring both legislators up together to answer question and have a dialogue with members of the committee.  This is a great opportunity for CLE Committee members to engage in direct dialogue with the elected officials most responsible for setting Minnesota energy policy.

Please join us for lunch beginning at Noon, followed by the program from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

Box lunch will be provided.  Special meal requests need to be received no later than Monday, November 13.

Rep. Pat Garofalo is an information technology network engineer and lives in Farmington, Minnesota. Rep. Garofalo was first elected in 2004 and is serving his seventh term in the Minnesota House of Representatives. Garofalo has showed a keen interest in the energy regulatory process since becoming Chair, including his interest in the electrification of transportation. Representative Garofalo also serves on the Taxes and Ways and Means committee. Representative Garofalo graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato with a B.S. in Law Enforcement.

Senator David Osmek was elected in 2013 and is serving his second term in the Minnesota Senate. Senator Osmek is the Chairman of the Minnesota Senate Energy and Utilities Finance and Policy Committee. Senator Osmek served as the Senate Minority Whip from 2014 to 2016. Prior to his election to the Minnesota Senate, Senator Osmek served more than eleven years as a Mound City Council member. Senator Osmek is a graduate of Saint Cloud State University and is a Project Manager for United Health Group where he is responsible for data processing and reporting for over 139,000 military servicemen, their dependents, and retirees.  In August 2017 Senator Osmek announced he was running for Governor of Minnesota.
