HCBF Golf Classic Raises Almost $30,000 for Access to Justice

2021-HCBF-GOLF-BANNER

BY CORY OLSON
2021 Golf Committee Chair

After a year of virtual meetings and social distancing, members of the Hennepin County Bar Association came together for an afternoon of recreation, socializing, and networking at the 2021 Tee It Up for Justice, Pedal for Justice, and all-new Game-Set-Match for Justice to support the Hennepin County Bar Foundation (HCBF).

With record participation, this year's event was one of the most successful in its history. Over 130 golfers, cyclists, and tennis players raised approximately $30,000 to help provide access to justice in Hennepin County.

Held at the beautiful Oak Ridge Country Club, this year’s event marked one of the first in-person HCBA events since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. With clear skies and perfect temperatures, the day marked a welcome opportunity to catch up with friends and colleagues over a round of golf, a leisurely ride, or a friendly game of tennis.

Tee it Up for Justice is one of two major fundraisers for the HCBF, the charitable-giving arm of the HCBA. Accompanied by the third-annual Pedal for Justice bike ride and inaugural Game-Set-Match for Justice, this event allows HCBA members and supporters to gather, connect. and support the work of the HCBF. Proceeds go towards the Foundation's mission of "promoting access to justice for the people of Hennepin County."

None of this would be possible without your participation and the support of our wonderful sponsors. We would like to give special thanks to this year’s Eagle Sponsor, Dorsey & Whitney LLP. Special thanks also goes to Stinson LLP for its continued sponsorship of the Bernie Zimpfer Memorial Cup Challenge, which we celebrated this year by unveiling a brand-new traveling trophy. The committee also thanks Retired Judge Mickey Greenberg, who used his power of persuasion, and golfers' propensity to hit errant shots, to single-handedly raise $1,385 on his “hit the green” contest.

Finally, we would like to thank the bar association staff, and all our volunteers who helped make the day possible. The committee is already planning next year's event. and we hope to see all of you next fall when we look to continue setting new records in our effort to ensure equal access to justice for all.
